Root chakra affirmations can be a grounding addition to your meditation routine, personal manifesto, or morning affirmation practice.
But what is a “root chakra?”
In tantric Hinduism, a chakra is a place on the body where one is to direct his focus during meditation. The body has seven chakra points, beginning just above the crown of the head and continuing down to the pelvic floor. Each chakra is thought to be responsible for modulating a type of energy flow in and out of the body. Meditating on these focal points balances and unblocks these chakras, allowing them to release their energy into the body.
The root chakra, specifically, manages foundational needs like trust, integrity, humility, and a sense of being grounded.
An imbalance in the root chakra causes anxiety and insecurity. It leads us to make decisions that don’t line up with our personal values and belief systems. It encourages us to look for ways to find the easy way out, take shortcuts, and avoid confronting the hard work of life.
Physically, the root chakra is located between the perineum and the pelvic bone.1 It is the first and bottommost chakra on the body, and as a result it is considered the foundational chakra. It is the chakra upon which all other chakras rely. You can’t address any other chakras until you have resolved your root chakra.
Putting aside whether you agree with the spiritual beliefs around chakras, it is hard to deny that being grounded is the first step toward building a life that aligns with who we really are inside.
We recommend using root chakra affirmations as mantras in meditation2, but they can also be repeated as part of a morning self-talk routine or a daily reading of your personal manifesto.
